LEGO has recently revealed two new Speed Champions sets based on vehicles popularized in the silver screen that will be released in August 2022. This will be our review of the 76912 Speed Champions Fast and Furious 1970 Dodge Charger R/T.

Box Experience

The box shows Vin Diesel in another mission for his family in his trusty souped-up version of the muscle car 1970 Dodge Charger R/T

Unboxing

Inside the box, you’ll find two bags of elements, an instruction manual and a sticker sheet.
The surprisingly small sticker sheet contains some minor detailing, fuel cap and license plate. As the stickers are optional decorative elements, we opted not to paste them on our final build.

There is a big number of decorated elements included in this set with the majority of them being used to enhance the look a the back of the vehicle and for the hubcaps.

The Build

The front of the car looks decidedly blocky. On the actual car, there are some curves at the front but this would be virtually impossible to pull of in this scale. The back of the car looks very sleek and the printed pieces add to the overall shaping of the car. However, as there are no chrome detailing, instead being replaced by your standard light bluish gray, you can’t help but feel that somethings missing. The supercharger is decently represented at all angles with a nice sub assembly.

The side profile of the car is looks great, with the designer adding in roller skate elements as the door handles and integrating 1/4 circle tiles to represent the side vents

**Screencaps from the Fast and the Furious movie

The car’s interior is exposed by lifting up the roof assembly and the designer has squeezed in one left hand drive black leather seat, a roll cage, a stick shift ,steering wheel and what looks to be a fire extinguisher/NOS tank into it.

As with the James Bond Aston Martin DB5, Dom is able to be placed in the car only with one arm aloft due to the fitting of the windscreen.

Minifigure

Dominic Toretto/Vin Diesel is represented well with his sleeveless black T-shirt but chose dark grey legs instead of dark blue to represent the denim that he usually sports.

He also sports a curious “The Rock” looking expression with one lifted eyebrow and pursed lips. The prominent folds of his skin around the cheeks and chin area are replicated here in great detail.
Yes, we do know Vin Diesel has some real beef with Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson so we aren’t sure if the lifted eyebrow was pure coincidence or not.

On a negative side, the tiny skin print at the top of the torso is hampered once again by the light print on dark element issue making the print very much lighter than intended.

Summary

This isn’t the first time that LEGO has tackled the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with a 6 stud wide iteration in set 75893 released in 2019 and a LEGO Technic Dodge Charger in set 42111 but it’s the first 8 stud variant and we believe it fits into the lineup nicely.

We give the set a wholesome 4/5 rating, although not perfect but it’s a great improvement over past iterations and one for the Fast and the Furious fans.
