Once every four years, the whole world seems caught up in the World Cup Fever and it’s no exception for 2026. When the US/Canada/Mexico hosted tournament was done and dusted, Spain was crowned the world champions for this edition. Football fans were treated to the the famous golden trophy lifting by the team, confetti and jubilant celebrations.
What nobody expected was for LEGO to become one of the tournament’s post celebration most talked-about moments. As the Spanish players left the stadium, several members of the squad were spotted carrying brick-built LEGO World Cup trophy replicas. Defender Marc Cucurella went viral after cameras caught him walking out in the mixed zone with one tucked inside a clear plastic shopping bag, prompting thousands of fans online to wonder why the World Cup trophy was being treated like groceries.

The answer? It wasn’t the real FIFA trophy, it was a commemorative LEGO replica that had been given to the Spanish squad as part of their World Cup celebrations. It seems that the Spanish squad were given two replicas.
A LEGO replica and a more traditional replica trophy.

Other photos of the LEGO trophy seen from the mixed zone include Spanish and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya lugging both prized replicas back home.
