71050 – LEGO minifigures – Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse will be releasing on 1st Sept worldwide.
There are 12 varieties to collect and yes, the QR code can still be scanned using apps/websites to identify the figure inside the blind box !
Here’s our quick review of them
Miles Morales from Earth-1610
He comes depicted in the midst of activating his electricity based VENOM powers with the front of his torso, and side of arms showing this detail. His hands are also in light blue, perhaps to help visualise him “shooting” out the electricity powers. A good idea but somehow I am just picturing him in surgical gloves.
The pants and boots are decorated but the legs have no side leg printing.
His head has two printed expressions, happy and grim/serious
He is one of 7 minifigures in this series to come with an extra head to depict him in masked and unmasked mode
Spider-Punk. Alter ego : Hobart Brown from Earth-138
He is all tricked out. His whole outfit is represented on the minifigure with printed front and backs, printed arms, printed side and front legs and even comes with a detailed printed guitar.
Even his unmasked form is impressive with detailed faces and one cool hairstyle.
The Prowler. Alter Ego : Miles Morales from Earth 42.
He comes from a universe where he didn’t get bitten by a radioactive spider as it was yanked into another universe and ended up as the vigilante anti-hero Prowler.
Detailed printing of the mask, front and back of torso, as well as the arms and side of legs. The stylised collar of his suit comes in a fabric attachment.
He comes with an unmasked head with accompanying headpiece but there is no alternate expression print.
Spider-Gwen. Alter Ego : Gwen Stacy from Earth-65
She comes with printed torso and printed arms, printed boots, dual molded legs. Her accessory is a unmasked photo of her and Miles Morales. This is probably the 10th? such figure of Ghost Spider/Gwen Stacy from LEGO but is the only one with dual molded/side printed legs and side printed arms.
The unmasked head comes with an alternate angry expression and a great headpiece.
Spider-Man 2099 : Alter-ego Miguel O’Hara from Earth 928.
The leader of the Spider Society. He ends up being the antagonist for the show.
His futuristic design drips from his decorative piece and even the choice of material for this cloak. He only lacks side-leg printing but is a heck of a minifigure with fully printed arms and dual printed faces for his unmasked head.
His accessory is his holographic AI assistant LYLA
Spider-Man India. Alter ego : Pavitr Prabhakar from Earth 50101.
Free spirited and best friends with Spider-Punk. Got his powers magically from a yogi.
Good prints all around for the minifigure with fully printed arms, torso and legs. His outfit is well represented and even his bangles are recreated with as a side arm printing.
He has two accessories, a “chai” cup and a mask wearing cat.
Dual printed expressions for his unmasked head as is the norm with most minifigures in this set.
Cyborg Spider Woman . Alter Ego : Petra, universe unknown
Another antagonist from the movie. Although she has fully printed torsos, arms and legs, and a good neck accessory.
I find this to be one of the weaker offerings in the series.
For one, it is not a big fig like how it’s depicted in the animation and elsewhere.
Secondly, the bright yellow utility belt piece is a bit jarring. I would have preferred it to be printed and muted like how it was done for Cyborg Spider-Man (A freebie with the DK LEGO book : Explore the Spider-Verse) but it’s probably due to a limitation with the original design itself. (Other similar merch of Cyborg Spider-Woman also carry this jarring bright yellow utility belt)
Sun Spider. Alter ego : Charlotte Webber from Earth-20023
She has E.D.S (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and requires crutches to stabilise the body and help her move . The cap is designed to be worn backwards. She’s wearing a black and red hoodie with orange accents. While she has arm printing, the sides of the legs are not printed.
Sun Spider does not have an unmasked head with the set.
Spider-Byte. Alter ego : Margo Kess from Earth-22191.
Spider-Byte represents Margo’s avatar. The avatar figure has pearlescent purple arms and legs (both which are printed all round). The mask comes as a one piece with the hair poking out the back sort of like a VR goggle
She has a tablet-looking accessory that matches her “tech” vibe
Spider-Byte does come with an unmasked head (and headpiece) with two printed expressions
Spider-Man . Alter-ego : Peter Parker from Earth-616
The original Peter Parker which most of us are familiar with.
He is depicted in his pink nightgown with Spidey suit underneath. His face has a bit of a stubble and he carries the cute May Parker in a baby carrier
The decision to make the dual molded legs white at the bottom confused me for a moment till I realized they were socks over house slippers, maybe a little red stripe would have helped!
The star has to be May Parker who has her masked pulled up. Cute!
Web-Slinger. Alter ego : Patrick O’Hara from Earth-31913.
Wears a red bandana, a cowboy hat, a yellow vest and cowboy boots with jeans. Prints are pretty detailed but only limited to the front of the figure and the back of the torso
Has a lasso instead of his web slinging guns.
The main draw points is Widow, his horse although it’s more of a display piece here rather than a functional one due to understandable limitations for size and cost.
No unmasked head/headpiece for this figure and there’s no Spider-related decorations on the torso and leg so you could realistically just swap the head and get a cowboy for your LEGO city. Win-Win!
Werewolf Spider-Man. Alter ego: Peter Parker from Earth-7085
Printed details run all over the body showcasing his furry self and the “torn” suit look.
In terms of detailed design, TLG knocked it out of the park with the all round prints .
The effort shows but ultimately, this just feels like werewolf with a Spider-Mask. For the furry lovers?
No accessories with this minifigures so I have included a look at his torso without his oversized head.
Summary : The spider-verse is indeed ripe for many Spider-Man iterations reminiscent of the Batman and Iron-Man suits. There are some strong figures like Spider-Punk and Spider-Man 2099 while some obscure ones like Cyborg Spider-Woman and Werewolf Spider-Man are also included
