Review of 31206 The Rolling Stones
“Wall Art”
First of all, a big thank you to LEGO for sending us this awesome set for early review. This set features the Big Red Mouth logo designed by John Pasch for the Rolling Stones back in 1971. This representation of the now iconic band logo of the Rolling Stones is priced at USD149.99 with a parts count of 1998 pieces. Let’s see what’s inside this set.
The front of the box features a red, black and white colour scheme. The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962. The tongue and lips logo is designed by John Pasche, and was introduced in 1971. The box is not usual LEGO box that opens from the side. You need to lift the whole cover up to reveal the contents, sort of like a gift box.
This is inside of the box fresh after opening it. The numbered bags are in the smaller box at the bottom of the image. Like usual LEGO Arts series, there is a QR code for you to scan and it will lead you to the sounds page where you can listen to commentary or music related to the build while you build! Of course, it’s not up yet at time of review 🙁
There are 12 numbered bags and 5 big black plates.
The skeleton of the build. This reminds me of 76161 Batwing skeleton build. As the weight of the final build of this tongue and lips logo is quite heavy, it needs a sturdy and strong backbone to avoid it falling down from the wall. Those little technic pins are very strong when they are connected in these bricks.
The big black plate 6302092 is actually one plate taller than normal bricks.
Bag 1 completes the upper left part of the lip base.
Bag 2 completes the reds and whites.
Bag 3 upper right lip base done.
Bag 4 completes the upper lip in two compartments.
The union was done by connecting the little technic pins. Here the upper part of the lips is already done with the teeth.
Bag 5 we have the base of the tongue.
The back of the tongue. The blue 2×6 plates are literally the back bone of the build as they connect the build at the back to strengthen the whole wall Art.
Bag 6 builds the border of the tongue.
The bottom lip is connected to the upper lip.
Bag 7 draws the midline of the tongue.
Bag 8 is the most meaningful build of the model. A stylized number 60 celebrates the 60th year of The Rolling Stones(established) since 1972. This serves as a hidden Easter egg as it will be covered up after this.
Bag 9, cover the tongue in red.
Bag 10 added some white to serve as light reflection on the left side of the tongue.
Bag 11 adds thickness and texture to the tip of the tongue.
Bag 12 finishes the build and adds left side light reflection. The 2×4 tile with The Rolling Stones printed in it adds charm to the whole build and it is ready to be hung on the wall.
The tongue and lips logo is bigger than the usual square LEGO Art mosaics.
Verdict
I give this set a 4.5/5.0 score as the set is quite artistic. Designs are very accurate with the original logo. This set is priced at USD149.99 with a parts count of 1998 pieces. This set is a must have in the walls of The Rolling Stones fans’ houses. It really looks like a nice logo/pop-art hung on the wall instead of LEGO from afar. The addition of extra layers of builds conveys a more 3D outlook. It will further impress your guests when they walk near and notices that it is actually built with LEGO bricks!
Hope you enjoy my review. This is Mr. Beast signing off! Thank you!
The set will be released in June/Aug 2022 depending on your region for a price of USD149.99/€149,99
