The 40078 Mini Disney Castle Review
The 71040 Disney Castle is one of our favourite LEGO sets. We are excited to have an early look at the mini Disney Castle.
Box Experience
This little gem comes in a nice box with the Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary icon placed at the front and at the side of the box.
The box comes with an instruction booklet, 6 numbered bags (2 earch for numbers 3&4) and…that’s it. No stickers.
The Build
Bag 1 builds up the base of the set, two nano figures are likely used to represent Mickey and Minnie Mouse and we get a reminder of the main set with the inclusion of the 71040 box printed on a 2×4 tile and a 1×2 tile with a print of a pair of Cinderella’s high heels (In the main set, the high heels are also hidden as a pair of brick built heels in a box) This area will not be easily accessed after the build is complete so take a good look at it while you can!
Bag 2 proceeds with the completion of the full perimeter of the main castle. The angles of the walls are achieved via strategically positioned robot arms and the shield piece clicking snugly onto the clips. Remember to align the robot arms position if it doesn’t fit 🙂
Bags 3 and 4 complete the build. As there are many similar looking towers in the final steps, you might find the build start to get a little monotonous at this point but do remember to note the amount of duplicate builds needed for each step!
Many nice and shiny elements are used with a generous serving of pearl gold elements and a specially printed Nexo Knight shield for the clock face.
The tower roofs are built with satin blue dishes and cones, which are probably something newly introduced for this set. The back of the castle is equally detailed with additional texturing all around.
Minifigures
Speaking of new, we get a brand new Mickey Mouse with a unique torso print with a nice big red bow tie and white vest!
Summary
This is a great set and at represents a great price point for this represenation of an iconic landmark in the entertainment industry. We particularly loved the choice of colours.
Comparing it to the original 71040, we find that the colour scheme differs of the inner tower and the additional golden trimmings on the outer wall which probably mimic the actual proposed changes to the Cinderella Castle in Walt Disney World this year.
At 567pcs, and with a recommended retail price of 30.99 GBP/34.99 EUR/34.99 USD/ 44.99 CAD, we definitely recommend picking this set up. More so, if you are a Disney fan.
