Master Builder Series & Ultimate Collector Series >Clarification from LEGO

With the impending release of 75222 Betrayal at Cloud City, the LEGO world is introduced to a new categorization of sets – The Master Builder Series. Many have wondered if this means the demise of the old Ultimate Collectors Series. Through the LEGO Ambassador Network, the LEGO Star Wars team has come out with a statement of clarification that is republished verbatim here.

The Master Builder Series models are large playsets and beside being complex builds they are characterized by having many play features and functions, interior details as well as a range of minifigures. Ultimate Collectors series will remain highly detailed display models providing complex builds with a focus on authenticity and both Ultimate Collectors Series and Master Builder Series will continue as a way to highlight the unique characteristic of each style of model.

In a nutshell, we take this to mean that high price point sets for the Star Wars line will be classified as a MBS for playsets that has a significant number of play features and minifigures while UCS is reserved for display models (mostly non minifigure scale).
Based on the UCS Star Wars list in Brickipedia reproduced below we see which sets would be reclassified as a Master Builder Series set if the sets were retrospectively changed.

*Note : 10195 is probably not a UCS set from the get go but the high price point lets it into this list as per most AFOL’s view that five digit Star Wars sets that start with the number 1 are UCS sets. List only shows UCS Star Wars.
