The kind folk at Brickset have revealed that a “new” Billund Airport set is now available exclusively at Billund Airport, Denmark (The Home of LEGO) for 399DKK. Brickset commenter Jacopyright also mentions that if you buy more than 3 sets, the price increases to 899DKK each in an effort to deter scalpers. It is sold in the closed to public-departure area of the airport so you’ll need to be flying in(with some navigation on the airport’s online store site, you can purchase them online and collect it when you land) or out to get it.
The previous set had an initial run of 10,000 sets and seemed to have sold out, thus prompting the release of a new one. This means that the old set 4000016 is now unofficially a collector’s item.
Apart from the new flower element introduced this year, you can see that the left side of the terminal is changed, the roof colour is now homogenous and the yellow airpoort vehicle at the side has switched orientation so we guess the design changes are big enough to necessitate the introduction of a new set number.
