The previous 620 blue baseplate was replaced by the sand baseplate 10699 in Jan 2015 and now the new 10714 blue baseplate takes back the mantle.

We believe many fans will be relieved by this announcement as they the resale price for the “retired” blue LEGO baseplates have been outrageous making scenes of blue seas and blue pools that much harder and more expensive. This means the sand baseplate will be retiring and those that want it for their beach/desert moc might want to consider stocking up when it’s being cleared.
*Update: As of 20th Dec 2017, The sand baseplate 10699 is already retired in several regions like Germany and the UK. You might be able to find it still at your local toy stores before they run out of existing shelf stocks.
